The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)

The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) is funded by utility companies. EPRI's mission is to formulate, fund and manage research for the benefit of the electric utility industry.

Electric Power Reasearch

While Dr. Fox was a research project manager in EPRI's Nuclear Power Division, he helped formulate, launch and manage on the order of 100 million dollars of research in metallurgy, corrosion and failure analysis.

Dr. Fox also pioneered the use of Technology Transfer Videos to help communicate the details of EPRI's research to the member utilities. He developed two such Technology Transfer Videos, one on the Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) Owner's Group (BWROG) research program and another on BWR Water Chemistry. Separate links to these videos can be found in the left hand window. Pease note that these videos are from the 1980s and do not represent EPRI research activities today.

While at EPRI Dr. Fox was the opening speaker at an International Meeting of the BWROG. This opening presentation was an overview of the Nuclear Division's research in metallurgy, corrosion and failure analysis focused on solving a major pipe-cracking problem in BWRs.

In addition, while at EPRI, Dr. Fox developed research project management skills that allowed him to successfully manage a large number of research projects (at times up to 20) while staying on budget, on schedule and achieving project goals. After leaving EPRI Dr. Fox used those skills to develop a Research Project Management Training Program for The Gas Research Institute (GRI) that included a Time Management Program. Dr. Fox also developed a Technology Transfer Video for GRI on their Basic Research Program. See Gas Research Institute in the Areas of Expertise window.
