Tire Inflator Explosion
|
Aerosol Tire Inflator Explosion - Mechanical Explosion - ArizonaA retired gentleman had just filled a flat tire on a riding lawn mower using a non-explosive, non-flammable aerosol tire repair product. He set the aerosol product down on a concrete patio and before he could completely straighten up, the bottom of the aerosol container exploded off and the body of the container rocketed directly into his stomach. Issues in the case included whether or not the DOT 2Q aerosol container was defective, whether or not the aerosol formulation was defective, and whether or not the container was dropped by the plaintiff, and whether or not the warning label was adequate. The scientific approach included simulated drop testing, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDAX) and literature plus code research. Dr. Fox is also a Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator who is also an aerosol expert. He made presentations at national societies on the fire and explosion hazards associated with aerosols and has published several peer-reviewed, scientific papers on the failure of aerosols. ©2005 CHEMAXX, INC |
